Abstract

Interpersonal metafunction is one of the three meta-functions in systemic functional linguistics. And its realization runs through every process of the speech. Based on Halliday's interpersonal function theoretical framework, this paper analyzes the public speech delivered by UN Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson in 2004 at the United Nations "HeForShe" activity, to explore how Emma used the language means to realize the interpersonal meaning in public speech, and further called on everyone to actively participate in the activity.
