Abstract

Mint family (Lamiaceae) member of Scutellaria discolor Colebr and Plectranthus galeatus Vahl populations are gradually declining. Recently their populations have habitat only found in the mountains or highlands or the edges of the forests that are still protected, i.e. Mount Salak and Telaga Warna protected forest. In this study aimed to account parent and seedling number of individual in population of Scutellaria discolor Colebr and Plectranthus galeatus Vahl. on Mount Salak and Telaga Warna vicinities, West Java Province, Indonesia. Parallel transect lines method used in this study. Existing plants association of the populations in the vicinity of the area were also observed. There are 203 seedlings and 167 parents of S. discolor species, meanwhile there are 83 seedlings and 13 parents of P. galeatus in Mount Salak at altitudes above 1200 m above sea level. This is higher than the populations of less than 1200 m altitude, i.e. there are 76 seedlings and 45 parents of S. discolor and 12 seedlings and 9 parents of P. galeatus. S. discolor exist only at altitudes above 1500 m above sea level in Telaga Warna,, e.g. 251 seedlings and 154 parents. While for P. galeatus, there are 71 seedlings and 90 parents at altitudes above 1500 m. At altitude below 1500 m, there are 18 seedlings and 8 parents, this is very rare. Populations of S. discolor and P. galeatus at an altitude between 1100 - 1300 m asl in Mount Salak is a balance between the seedlings and its parent population. Likewise for seedling populations of S. discolor at an altitude of 1526 - 1587 m asl, but for P. galeatus seedling number decreases altitude 1444 to 1599 m asl in Telaga Warna.
