Abstract

Dolycoris indicus Stål (Heteroptera : Pentatomidae) is found infecting Trifolium alexandrium Linn. berseme) (Fam. Papilionatae) and various members of family Graminae viz. Zea mays (cob plant), Oryza saliva Linn. (paddy) and Triticum aestivum (wheat) at dough stage. Its nymphs and adult both desap the spiklets, causing damage to the viability of the seeds. The bugs copulate and oviposit eggs on the surface of the leaf or chimney wall. Eggs hatched and emerge into 1st first instar moults through 2nd, 3 rd, 4th instars. The 5th moults into adult. The life cycle completes in 22 to 42 days in laboratory but it depends on the climatic variations in the fields. The adult bug undergoes diapause from November to mid March. Rearing in the fields results high rate of mortality. Being a sap sucker, the present study on life history bears significance in its control management.
