Abstract

One of the earliest diseases known to afflict humans, tuberculosis (TB), which is brought on by germs from the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, is a leading cause of death worldwide. According to the WHO, tuberculosis is the second-leading cause of death in the world's population after HIV/AIDS. Tuberculosis continues to be a serious threat to humankind. The poor socioeconomic segment of the population and marginalized groups within the community are particularly susceptible to tuberculosis. By 2025, tuberculosis would have been eradicated nationally in India, according to the National Strategic Plan (2017-2025). Increased knowledge and awareness of tuberculosis are necessary. The suggested newer medications for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis are also summarised in this review chapter along with the treatment regimens for sensitive, extensive, and drug-resistant tuberculosis.
